You know how in teen drama series no one ever really seems to have classes. Or, at least, not classes that have any bearing on their lives besides moments for looking moody in a Death Cab for Cutie montage. Also, parents. 90% of TV teenage drama can be averted by good parenting.

Anyway, the last few weeks our community college gang has been taking it a little light on the college side of things. Not that we really noticed, but it was definitely about to get conspicuous. Which brings us to the first gag of the night: the study group trying to remember how to study. I mention it because it is probably the most consistent gag the show has. Only once have we seen the group actually study and that was for last season’s Spanish Final. And that gag sums up what this episode is about. Continue reading

INTERMEDIATE DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKING

So, this week, The Office did a very Community episode and… yeah. Since the mid-season break, Pierce has been sailing out of control and it’s been threatening to completely unbalance the show’s dynamic. His increased belligerence has made him impossible to work with and the only way to have a story that doesn’t center on him, at least as the antagonist (AD&D), has required completely removing him from the action (E21CR). It’s time to resolve. So, Pierce fakes a serious illness in order to get revenge for not being taken seriously.

Community: Celebrity Pharmacology 212

New viewers are a tricky thing for a show. Figuring out exactly which information to reveal when can be a tightrope walk. Too much it clutter, too little is vague. Of course, some shows can deliver a dynamite intro that leads into nothing or, worse, the same thing on repeat. And there are shows with awkward beginnings that turn into something amazing once you, the viewer, get your bearings. Community had a brilliant open, balancing just enough zany to prepare us for what was coming with a solid base of relatability; which is exactly what a new audience needs. Continue reading
